Graduate Students and Doctoral Candidates at the Partner Universities

Research has an impact beyond borders: by opting for a Joint Doctoral program, doctoral candidates from Nagoya University, Japan, and the University of Adelaide, Australia, will be able to plan and implement a substantial part of their PhD studies at the University of Freiburg. Hence, they will equip their research activities with a global perspective from the very beginning. The Program at a Glance

By pursuing a Joint Doctoral program doctoral candidates will

  • spend at least 12 months at the University of Freiburg and will be awarded a Joint Doctoral Degree by both Freiburg and their home university upon successful completion of their doctoral studies.
  • be supported by one supervisor at every participating university throughout their doctorate
  • benefit from complementary and groundbreaking research foci with a global perspective
  • have access to excellent research facilities at two universities: in Freiburg and at the home institution
  • become an associated member of the Spemann Graduate School and will have access to a multidisciplinary course offer and training programs
  • qualify for an international working environment and have facilitated access to job markets in Germany
