Online Workshop on Collaborative Online International Learning COIL/Virtual Exchange

COIL Plakat

Two student cohorts and two lecturers from two different countries on two continents – one topic and one virtual classroom: that is what Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) or Virtual Exchange could look like in practice. COIL/Virtual Exchange is all about using digital tools and technology to create an online learning environment, together with colleagues from partner universities all around the globe – and thus enabling students to experience international encounters and discourses in an academic setting.

As a lecturer, you have vaguely thought about setting up a COIL course and now you would like to tackle it for real? You have never heard of the concept before but you find it intriguing and are keen to take a closer look?

Then join us and our speakers on March 24, 2021, from 2.30-3.30 pm!

About the Workshop

The online workshop will feature an introduction by Eva Haug, COIL coordinator at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, followed by two good practices of COIL/Virtual activities at the University of Freiburg presented by Professor Judith Schlehe, Social and Cultural Anthropology, and Professor Alexandra-Maria Klein, Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology.

We will then have ample time for discussion and will provide further information about support services as well as funding opportunities.

The online workshop is open to all lecturers and staff members working in the field of learning and teaching (for example study program coordinators) at the University of Freiburg. It will be held entirely in English.

Since the number of participants for the online workshop is limited, please register for the event via this online registration form until March 12, 2021.

If you have any further questions prior to the event or if you would like to see a particular topic reflected in the workshop please feel free to contact Kathrin Jehle, International Office/Strategy, via email ( or phone (-4330).

We are looking forward to meeting you online in March!
