Our Partnerships and Networks

The University of Freiburg has many prolific transnational partnerships and is a member of various international networks. A particular focus lies on our five comprehensive partnerships, and on three networks: Eucor - The European Campus, the League of European Research Universities (LERU), and the Academic Consortium 21 (AC21).

The University of Freiburg considers itself a research university of global relevance with a strong commitment to internationality in research and teaching. Strategically important transnational relations, as well as committed and innovative networking partners are essential components for the implementation of our internationalization goals. The University of Freiburg is involved in both European and non-European networks, and has a number of international partner universities.

Comprehensive Partnerships

Five comprehensive partnerships around the world are of particular importance:

Eucor - The European Campus

Eucor forms a closely cooperating trinational university network between the five upper rhine universities in Germany, Switzerland and France. Central elements are the mutual recognition of class achievements and grades, the exchange of students and faculty, joint degree programs, graduate schools and summer schools, as well as joint research insitutes and projects.

Students enrolled in any program at any of the partner universities are entitled to attend courses and benefit from the facilities and services of all the institutions within the Eucor network. This includes enrolment in classes without additional charges, as well as use of public transportation under specific conditions.

League of European Research Universities (LERU)

The League of European Research Universities is an association of twenty-one leading research-intensive universities that share the values of high-quality teaching within an environment of internationally competitive research.

The League advocates these values by developing best practice through mutual exchange and impulses for higher education policies. LERU regularly publishes a variety of papers and reports which provide concrete recommendations for policymakers, universities, researchers and other stakeholders.

Academic Consortium 21 (AC21)

The main goal of the network is the closer collaboration of research universities worldwide, with most members coming from the Asia-Pacific. AC21 regularly holds events for the university leaders, young researchers and students. In 2015 the AC21 Student World Forum will be organized by the University of Strasbourg with support from the University of Freiburg.
